A System for Scoring

Bernard King is a retired basketball player who scored nearly 20,000 points (that’s a lot!) in his 14-year, hall-of-fame career. InĀ this video, he describes his system for scoring. Don’t worry if you don’t know or like basketball. This video is about much more than that game. It’s about the power of systems, the power of planning, the power of anticipation, the power of adjusting. ThisĀ short videoĀ contains powerful lessons for any business. (Thanks to subscriber and friend Beth Pagano for sharing this with me.

Song of the Day
An Ode to John Prine

One of the businesses I run is called (ware)HOUSE Concerts. I host concerts in a black box performing space built into the back corner of a warehouse in St. Louis.

We fill the space with sofas to turn it into a giant living room. Those who attend love the intimate vibe. Artists love to perform there, too. We paused live shows because of the pandemic (they’ll be back soon).

Meanwhile, I send a daily(ish) “Song of the Day” email to my list. I pick a song, share a story or some background info about it, add it to public playlists on Spotify and Apple, link to the song on YouTube, and send all of the above to everyone on my list.

Here’s oneĀ I wrote last month about Todd Snider and his friend John Prine. Last year, Prine died due to complications from that dreaded virus. The song is Snider’s tribute to his friend. TheĀ story Snider tellsĀ is great.

You can find all of the song of the day posts and sign up for the emailsĀ here.

Lyrics for Ponder
John Prine Wrote and Sang This…

ā€œThat’s the way that the world goes ’round
You’re up one day and the next you’re down
It’s half an inch of water and you think you’re gonna drown
That’s the way that the world goes ’round”

Don't go away yet..
