Are you Making this Bank Robber’s Mistake?

If you’ve ever robbed a bank, you know:
Waiting is the hardest part.
You hand the clerk a note or you wave a gun and say, “Gimme the money.”
And then you have to wait and wait and wait and wait…
…and wait…
…and wait…
…and waaaaiiiit.
It takes a long time for a nervous clerk to stuff a sack with stacks of cash.
And in that time, some stealthy employee may press the “we’re being robbed” button on the underside of the counter or quietly call 911.
Before you know it, the cops have the bank surrounded, and you’re headed to prison instead of Easy Street.
Who wants to wait for that?
I assume that’s what Albert Bailey and his accomplice were thinking in 2010 when they called People’s United Bank in Fairfield, CT to pre-order a bag of cash.
According to the cops, Bailey called the bank and said (I’m paraphrasing here): “We’re coming to rob you. Have a bag of cash ready for us.”
(It doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to know how this turns out.)
You see, Albert and his accomplice solved one problem with their tactic:
When they called ahead for carry-out cash, they eliminated the hardest part — the waiting thing. (Or so they thought.)
But — and this is a BIG BUT — they also eliminated the element of surprise.
So when Albert and his accomplice arrived at the bank to pick up their “order,” the cops were ready to pounce.
(So long, Easy Street).
I know. I know. You’re not a bank robber (are you?).
But you’re probably planning ways to grow your business. And you have two choices:
1. Be a tactical thinker like Albert.
2. Be a strategic thinker who sees the big picture.
When you think like Albert, you hop from tactic to tactic without connecting the dots. You choose a tactic that solves one problem while creating other problems.
Strategic business-builders develop a comprehensive strategy around…
…message (what content will attract qualified prospects and inspire them to buy?)…
…tech (what tools will help me put those messages in front of the right people at the right time while saving time and eliminating hassles?)…
…team (how do you gather and organize the right people you can trust to get the job done and free you up to focus on what you want to do?).
Message. Tech. Team. The MT&T Trifecta.
You have to have a clear, strategic MT&T plan (not one tactic at a time) to build a thriving business that serves you.
Without this, you’re a slave to your business, trapped in an endless parade of disconnected tactics. Always trading one problem for another. Constant headaches and hassles. Dreaming of Easy Street but unable to get there.
If that sounds familiar and you’ve had enough of that…
