Why Personality Punch is More Valuable than Texas Tea

1250x672

Come and listen to my story ’bout a man named Fred…

…(named changed to protect the guilty)…

…a poor marketer, barely kept his family fed.

You see, Fred was one of those marketers who spouted unproven “rules” — as if they were commandments from the mountaintop. “Rules” full of more bullsh*t than the compost pile by the rodeo ring.

One day on LinkedIn, Fred said: “Never start a story by saying, ‘Here’s a story…’ (or anything like that).”

Fred (and others who spout said “rule”) claim such openings drive readers away.

But you know better, don’t you?

I mean, we’re…

…100 words into this story…

…that begins with me telling you…

…I’m gonna tell you a story.

And you’re still here.

You didn’t think, “Oh no! A story. Get me outta here!”

In fact, you may have thought (consciously or otherwise), “Oh boy! A story. I like stories.”

(Sorry to root ’round your noggin).

Even better if that story has some word play, humor, and twists like this one:

(The Ballad of Jed Clampett)

Come and listen to my story about a man named Jed
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed,
And then one day he was shootin at some food,
And up through the ground come a bubblin crude.

Oil that is, black gold, Texas tea.

Well the first thing you know ol Jed’s a millionaire,
The kinfolk said “Jed move away from there”
Said “Californy is the place you ought to be”
So they loaded up the truck and they moved to Beverly

Hills, that is. Swimmin pools, movie stars.

The Beverly Hillbillies

Elly May-oh-my! I love that story by Paul Henning (the creator and lead screenwriter of The Beverly Hillbillies).

Now we’re 288 words into this email…

…and you’re STILL here…

…which makes me think I’m doing SOMETHING right.

And I think that something is…

Writing with personality.

Maybe you’re here as an act of mercy, or as a way of procrastinating before you process end-of-month payroll.

But I suspect you’re enjoying this — at least enough to have moseyed all the way here, past the 351st word in this email.

Down yonder, Iā€™ll share a link for a masterclass I’m hosting…

…where you’ll learn how to ladle some personality punch into your content…

…so your audience enjoys what you’re servin’…

…reads from top-to-bottom…

…likes you and what you say…

…knows and trusts you…

…recognizes you as a go-to human in this robotic world…

…and hires you when the time is right.

Then you can deposit your profits in Mr. Drysdale’s bank and build a cee-ment pond for you and the family. Just like the movie stars.

The masterclass is called:

How to Put Personality In Your Content So You Stand Out, Attract Raving Fans, and Land More/Better Clients

I’m gonna share a heapin’ helpin’ of my personality-boosters…

…strategies, tactics, frameworks, habits, tips, and tools…

…so you can cook up content so personality-ish…

…your audience will lick their lips, hold out their empty plates, and say, “More, please!”

And because you’ll fill your noggin will be overflowing with strategies, tactics, frameworks, habits, tips, and tools, you’ll say, “No problem. There’s plenty more where that came from.”

(Several of those strategies, tactics, frameworks, habits, tips, and tools are reflected in this email. I’ll pull back the curtain at the masterclass.)

So if you’re free on Wednesday, March 6 at 2 p.m. ET, 1 p.m. CT…

…click the button below to claim your seat…

…join us in the masterclass-room…

…take your shoes off…

…and set a spell.

The lessons you learn will be more valuable than black gold or Texas tea.

One last thing: Thanks to marketing master Dave Dee whose emails ooze with personality.

Last week, he began an email with the first two lines from “The Ballad of Jed Clampett.”

His story inspired mine — even though his had an entirely different business hook. There’s a valuable lesson in that — which I’ll unpack at the masterclass.
