Why do I Create so Much Content?

A business owner asked me recently, why I create so much content. I sent him this passage from Chapter 1 of my book Story Power Marketing:

I have an old pair of brown shoes I nearly tossed in the trash. I didn’t dump them, though. I kept them. They still sit today on a dusty shelf in my bedroom closet. Their soft leather is faded and scuffed. Their soles have holes. If you saw them, you might tell me those shoes have seen better days. Actually, they’ve seen worse days. Much worse. That’s why I keep them. They remind me of the bad old days—and how I escaped.


Way back when, I used to wear those shoes every workday. I put countless miles on them. I marched around town. I knocked on every door on every floor. I cold-called until my throat was raw. I pushed and prodded to make sales.


I used to think sales was a numbers game—all about hustle and more hustle. Wear down your shoes. Knock on more doors. Cold-call again and again. That was my sales and marketing “strategy.”

Why do I create so much content?

Because it’s the most cost effective way I know to be noticed, stand out, and get hired.

Way better than wearing holes in my soles.

There are lots of ways to get noticed.

Hustling is one of them.

Spending big bucks on advertising is another.

But even then, you end up with lots of people who “notice” you but aren’t ready, willing, or able to hire you…

…at least, not yet.

Emails, social posts, videos, and other content bridge the gap. Content keeps you connected. Content builds relationships with them so they’ll choose you when they’re ready.

I know it’s true not because I read it in a book, but because I lived it.

I trasnformed my business, and I’ve watched my clients transform theirs.

Prospects come to them and say, “I have to work with you.”
