The secret to great opportunities? The person you haven’t met yet | Tanya Menon
We tend to stick with people who look like us, think like us, and make us feel comfortable. But when it comes to new ideas, big breaks, or fresh opportunities, that comfort zone becomes a trap.
Tanya Menon’s TED Talk is a sharp reminder that our next big breakthrough probably won’t come from our closest contacts—but from someone we barely know.
“To truly widen, what we have to do is, we’ve got to fight our sense of choice… connect with who you don’t want to connect with… create that randomness, that luck that is going to cause you to widen your travels through your social universe.”
Watch it. Then go strike up a conversation with a stranger.

Arc – From The Browser Company
I began using Arc a couple of weeks ago, and I love it. Simple, clean interface. Faster than Chrome and Edge. Vertical tabs and tab-groups that save from one device to another. Highly recommended.

“The Entrepreneurs Guide to Getting Your Shit Together” by John Carlton
I devoted an entire “RecomMONDAYtions” email to this book last week. Here’s what I said about the book and its author:
John Carlton may be the galaxy’s greatest living copywriter. But “The Entrepreneur’s Guide to Getting Your Shit Together” is not a copywriting or marketing manual.
If you want that manual, read his masterpiece “Kick-Ass Copywriting Secrets of a Marketing Rebel.”
“Ther Entrepreneur’s Guide…” is more of a playbook for navigating your life and business. How to…
Overcome fear and self-doubt.
Stay resilient through failures.
Embrace risk and discomfort.
Think like a hustler, not a victim.
Develop “street smarts” in business.
There’s plenty of valuable marketing advice AND many great stories from the trenches.
It’s a great book.
That’s why Ted Prodromou and I chose it for the Mastermind Book Club.
Every month, Ted and I choose a great book for Club members to read and discuss.
On Thursday, June 5 at 2:30 p.m. ET, we’ll meet on Zoom to discuss the book.
You can join the Club for free at MastermindBook.club.
As we get closer to the meeting date, Ted and I will send meeting reminders and the Zoom link to members.
Note: We usually meet on the fourth Thursday of each month. But we can’t meet on the fourth Thursday in May so we’ve shifted this meeting to June 5.

Words to Laugh At
Today is Homer Simpson’s 69th birthday. Really. In Season 4, Episode 16 of The Simpsons, viewers get a glimpse of Homer’s license, which clearly shows his birthdate as May 12, 1956.
In honor of the great man, I share some words of “wisdom” from him. It’s one of my favorite Homer quotes:
“Weaseling out of things is important to learn; it’s what separates us from the animals … except the weasel.”
