Your “Kryptonite” is The Best Part

1250x672

Do you have some knowledge you learned the hard way?

Sure you do. We all do.

Here’s the trickier question: When you deliver that knowledge to clients, do you share your “learned-the-hard-way story?”

A while back, I reviewed a client video in which she shared a bit of knowledge and added, “I learned that the hard way.”

I was on the edge of my seat.

“Go on…” I thought.

But then she moved on. No “hard way” story.

Here’s what I told her…

Your followers want to hear your “hard way” stories. They want to know about your struggles, especially if those struggles reflect theirs.

You validate their experience. You help them see there’s a path to progress. And you show up as a real, flesh-and-bleedable human being, not some robotic guru on high.

Some of those gurus say you appear weak if you reveal your struggles and failures. You undermine your authority.

That’s b.s.

My friend John David Mann said it well yesterday in his email newsletter, Mann’s Search for Meaning (subscribe here; you won’t be sorry):

“There’s nothing quite as relatable as finding the strength within vulnerability. Superman would be worthless as a story without Kryptonite.”

Embrace your vulnerability. Share it. Your prospects will relate to you more. They’ll like, trust, and respect you.

Don't go away yet..
