You’re Invited…

📡 The Raise the Bar Summit
I’m very choosy about the events I associate with. When Ann Carden invited me to speak at her event, I jumped at the chance — because Ann is a business coach I respect and she filled the speakers roster with so many other great people.

You can register now for the Raise Your Bar Summit which will include presentations by: Marc Mawhinney, Milana Leshinsky, AJ Rivera, Tom Poland, Amy Walker, Elena Daccus, and me — among many others.

For 11 days, starting on Monday, August 21, the summit will deliver daily presentations (to your inbox) with best strategies, tactics, and secrets to help you raise your influence and grow your business. .

If you want lifetime access to the recordings (plus other bonuses), you can get a VIP ticket for a small fee.

Register here.

Book

📕 How to Write One Song (by Jeff Tweedy)
On its surface, this book is about songwriting. If you’ve ever wanted to write your first song, or if you want to write more songs better, you’ll love this book.

But it’s more than a book about songwriting. It’s a book about the creative process. It’s a book about mindset. It’s a book about sharing your gifts with the world.

If you want to generate better business content, show up with greater authority and confidence, and — yes — product better art, this book is for you.

I recommend the audio version (read by Jeff).

It’s a short book. You’ll have plenty of time to read/listen before August 24…

…when we’ll discuss the book at this month’s meeting of the Mastermind Book Club. (see below).

Article

📡 Their Marketing Does Not Apply to You
Here’s a great article, published on LinkedIn by Michael Katz, about why you’ll stumble if you copy the way big brands market. As I’ve said often, paid brand building (think Goodyear Blimp) may seem like a great idea (because big, successful companies do it). But it rarely works for smaller businesses. Michael offers a better approach, rooted in the same principles I apply and teach.

Resources / Tools

🎥 Vimeo is Getting Better and Better

I’ve been using Vimeo to host videos for years. I like it better than YouTube for many things — especially when I want to restrict access to a video. (YouTube is better if you want people — and search engines — to find your videos)

Vimeo has added a lot of great functionality lately. So even if you’re “familiar” with the platform, dig deeper, and you’ll discover some video creation gold. Examples:

  • You can automatically send Zoom recordings straight into Vimeo without manual downloading and uploading.
  • Vimeo will automatically transcribe your videos for you.
  • You can edit video content by editing the written transcript (i.e. delete a paragraph of text from the transcript and the corresponding section of the video will delete).
  • You can create quick selfie/screen-capture videos (similar to Loom) that you can deliver by email. Great for quick thank you notes, training videos and more.

Words to Ponder

❝People who perform at a higher level set standards, not goals. Ultimately in life, you don’t always get your goals, but you will always get your standards.❞
