📚The Mastermind Book Club
This Thursday, at 2:30 p.m. ET, the Mastermind Book Club will meet to discuss “The Experience Economy.” Today, the idea of “customer experience” is baked into our culture like a chocolate chip in a cookie.

But in 1998, when Joe Pine and James Gilmore published this book, the idea was groundbreaking. And it’s more relevant today than ever

From the publisher’s summary:

This seminal book on experience innovation by Joe Pine and Jim Gilmore explores how savvy companies excel by offering compelling experiences for their customers, resulting not only in increased customer allegiance but also in a more profitable bottom line… “The Experience Economy” has become a must-read for leaders of enterprises large and small, for-profit and nonprofit, global and local.

Each month, Ted Prodromou and I choose one book for the Club to read and discuss. On the fourth Thursday (5/23 this month), we meet live on Zoom to discuss the book.

The Club and meetings are free to attend. But you have to join the Club in advance to get the meeting notices and Zoom link.

Using examples like the “gumball wizard” machine and the coffee industry, he demonstrates how adding experiential value can transform ordinary products and services. Pine emphasizes that as goods and services become commoditized, businesses must innovate by staging distinctive, memorable experiences to engage customers.
