What a Train Wreck (But I Survived)
About five minutes into the online training I was running last night…
…I realized I was using the wrong slide deck.
I’d opened an old version of my presentation — totally different than the one I intended to deliver.
(Uh oh!) š®
I muddled through — winging it the rest of the way. Doing my best. But feeling the entire time that I was engineering a train wreck.
When it was over, I was exhausted and upset.
But when I woke this morning, I felt better.
Some so-called “experts” would say I’m a fool to admit such mistakes. It diminishes your standing, undermines your credibility, they’d say.
But, hey, I’m human. And so are you.
And we humans need to accept what that means. We make mistakes. Then we dust ourselves off and carry on.
Pursuing perfection or, worse yet, pretending we’re perfect won’t get us anywhere.
Just like week, one of my business coaches (Dave Dee) wrote an email about how he flubbed a webinar.
“You might be wondering why I’m sharing a ‘failure’ with you,” he wrote. “It’s simple: I think you can learn just as much, if not more, from things that don’t work as you can from successes.”
Amen, Dave.
Today is Bob Marley’s birthday. When I board the plane and settle into my seat in a few minutes, I’m going to queue up some Marley and enjoy the words: “Don’t worry about a thing. ‘Cause every little thing gonna be alright.”
Don't go away yet..
