Tornado and Toto – Biz Lessons from the Japanese Toilet

1250x672

I’m suffering from toilet anxiety. And I gotta say… it stinks.

The backstory: A 150-mph(+) tornado pummeled my house last month, and Melissa and I have to move out while we rebuild our roof.

We found a nice house nearby to rent for the summer.

High ceilings. Comfortable mattresses. GREAT water pressure.

And a bunch of those Toto Japanese toilets.

Heated seats.

Self-cleaning.

And (here’s the rub): built-in bidets.

The bidet is a retractable “wand” that emerges from the back of the toilet.

The remote-controlled bidet sprays a stream of water (you can adjust the temperature and intensity) to bathe your bottom.

Ladies can extend the wand further to wash the front bits.

Another button on the remote fires up the dryer to discharge heated air so you can rise from the toilet drip free.

If all of this toilet talk makes you uncomfortable, IMAGINE HOW I FEEL…

…actually sitting on this robotic beast with that remote control in my hand…

…wondering whether to press that bidet button and soak my bottom.

It makes me shiver just writing about it (right now, I wish my office chair was heated).

But I also know, this IS a better toilet.

Environmentally friendly.

Easier to maintain.

More hygienic.

I mean, think about it. Imagine we were brought up using the bidet and then someone said, “I have a better idea. Tear off a few squares of this flimsier-than-flimsy paper, reach back there, and wipe!” You’d of thought, “Are you insane?!?”

Yet, there I sit, roll of two-ply Charmin at the ready, unwilling to embrace a better way — the bidet spray.

And therein lies a business lesson.

Your product or service may be better than the others. But that doesn’t mean prospects will embrace it.

You have to help them see the light if you want them to buy. And listing all that makes you “better” is often not enough.

My international bestselling book, Story Power Marketing, will show you how to transform reluctant prospects into hungry buyers.
