Thanksgiving Gratitude

Five people smile around a dining table set for a meal, with a roast turkey as the centerpiece. The scene looks bright and festive, suggesting a holiday gathering, with pumpkins and autumn decorations visible.

I woke this morning in a house that isn’t mine.

A rental house.

The place we’ve been staying since May…

…when an EF3 tornado (160 mph winds) ripped the roof of our house and leveled our yard.

It’s been a rough year.

We fired the first contractor.

We’re waiting on the second to begin repairs.

If everything goes well from here, we might be back in our house by Easter.

And still, I woke this morning overflowing with joy and gratitude.

This temporary house feels like home because it’s filled with loved ones.

My wife, Melissa. Our daughter, Maddie. Our dogs Moose (the crazy-doodle) and Cooper. And (on Face Time) our son Jake who’s living in New Zealand.

No one we know was hurt or killed in the tornado. Only five people died in the storm (a miracle, really).

All the things destroyed or damaged in the storm can be replaced.

All that matters remains… family, friends… and you.

I love the work I do and the time I spend with you and the rest of my online family.

I love getting out of bed each morning, pouring a cup of French roast (medium blend), and writing to you.

I love sharing my knowledge and passion for storytelling and technology and business-building.

I love when a subscriber or client tells me my knowledge and passion helped them break through.

That’s a lotta love. A lot to be thankful for.

So cheers to you and your loved ones.

Whether you’re in the USA celebrating Thanksgiving or elsewhere where it’s not a holiday, take stock. Embrace your loved ones. Consider all you have. Be grateful.
