Stop Waiting and Hoping – Take Control

I met yesterday with an author who’s frustrated because his new Amazon bestseller isn’t generating business.

On his website’s front page: A blurb about the book, an image of the cover, and a link to buy on Amazon.

With this approach, a lot has to happen for the book to generate business.

A website visitor has to visit the webpage, click the button to go to Amazon, buy the book on Amazon, read the book, and then (maybe, just maybe) reach out to the author.

When someone buys his book on Amazon, the author has no idea who they are. He has no contact information. He has no way to follow-up.

So the author waits by the phone or checks and re-checks his inbox for out-of-nowhere “let’s meet” requests from happy readers.

That’s a lousy way to build a business.

Here’s a better, proven strategy:

View your book as a super lead-magnet. Give website visitors a way to get the book directly from you, not Amazon.

Maybe you sell a paperback copy and handle delivery yourself.

Maybe you offer a free .pdf copy for download.

Whatever you do, get the reader’s contact information, especially their email.

Because, if you get their email, you can follow-up on your terms.

No more waiting and hoping and waiting and hoping that they’ll call on you.

You can reach out to them. Inform and entertain them.

Establish your credibility. Build a relationship. Get them to know like and trust you. Inspire them to hire you.

Using your book a book as a super lead-magnet is just one way to grow an email list so you can follow-up and get more clients.
