Shame on These Lying Liars & Their Marketing Tricks

1250x672

A cautionary tale about trust-busting marketing tricks…

Yesterday, I heard about a company offering a $400 discount on its lifetime software license — $97, instead of $497.

Tempting. So I visited the site and saw this…

“Deal Ends Today….!?” That set my hair on fire. šŸ”„ “I better act fast,” I thought. So I checked out some reviews.

TrustPilot had 68 reviews. Average score 2.9 out of 5 (not good). 1āļø reviews? 29 of them (yikes!).

Lots of complaints about broken promises, unresponsive support, “scams” and so forth. šŸ˜± šŸ˜± šŸ˜±

The minute I saw those reviews yesterday, I knew I’d write an email today about rotten marketing tricks

…because I knew that lifetime deal would not “end” as promised.

Sure enough, here’s what I saw this morning…

What will I see tomorrow? A dishonest headline proclaiming the deal will end on Friday 1/5.

Another day in the world of lying liars and the lies they tell to get a sale.

They give honest marketers a bad name.

I know…

…Scarcity sells.

“Deal Ends Today” sells software.

“Only three seats left” sells airplane tickets.

But you don’t have to be a lying liar to sell.

Set an honest deadline and trumpet it. Limit availability honestly so you can say, “Only remaining” and mean it.

If you say anything to sell — honest or not — you may fool some prospects. But do you really want to grow your business that way?

And for every few prospect you fool, plenty others will see through the tricks and choose not to do business with you.

If you intend to serve your clients honestly, if you intend to treat them with respect, if you intend to build an honest relationship with them…

…ditch the dishonest marketing tricks.

You can persuade prospects to buy without the dirty tricks.

Later this month, I’m releasing a short video on the phycology of persuasion to grow your business honestly and ethically. If you’d like to see the video before I release it publicly, reply to this email with “no dirty tricks.” I’ll send it to you next week.
