Remembering 9/11

🎗Bruce Springsteen’s “Into the Fire”
Today is September 11 — 22 years since that day. Eleven months after the attacks, Bruce Springsteen released the album “The Rising.” I remember the first time I listened to it on the day it was released. I particularly remember the second track, “Into the Fire.” I cried when I heard it. It honors those lost on 9/11. It honors those who lost loved ones. I still choke up every time I hear it or read the lyrics:

[Pre-Chorus 1]

I need your kiss
But love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs
Into the fire

[Chorus]

May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love

Beyond 9/11

🏗 Reviving Lower Manhattan Through the Arts
When Michael Bloomberg was elected mayor of New York in November 2001, “ground-zero” in lower Manhattan was still on fire. Yesterday, on CBS Sunday Morning, he celebrated the opening (later this month) of a $500 million arts center. It’s the final piece in the remarkable redevelopment of the World Trade Center site. A beautiful, vibrant neighborhood has emerged — literally from the ashes. This is something to celebrate as we also remember and mourn.

📚 “The Vagrant” by Dan Rockwell and John David Mann
Speaking of Dan Rockwell… he partnered with John David Mann to write a great book, The Vagrant (The Inner Journey of Leadership).

John co-wrote the Go-Giver books with Bob Burg. The Vagrant is a business fable — much like the Go-Giver books.

I received an advance copy and devoured it in one sitting. The book will be available starting on September 19. Click the link above to learn more and order in advance.
