A Jazz Guitarist and Composer Discusses the Creative Process
I love the “Songs Out Loud” podcast episode with Dan Rubright, hosted by Aaron Doerr.
If you love great jazz — especially fusion, Pat Matheny, etc. — this episode is a feast. And if you don’t love Jazz, this episode is a feast, too — just different ideas to consume.
There is so much wisdom about the creative process and structure in this interview. I’m not talking just about creating MUSIC. I’m talking about creation (period). If you want to create anything, you’ll learn something from this episode.
I’ll have A LOT more to say about this episode and the creative process in my email tomorrow.
Business Lessons From Henry David Thoreau
Henry David Thoreau was born 204 years ago today — on July 12, 1817.
An article published in March 2021 on Success.com says “Thoreau couldn’t be more relevant to this moment, to us. While his words lean idealistic, his professional life was far more pragmatic.”
I agree. I recommend the article. It’s a quick, entertaining read.
Spreeder — A Tool to Help You Speed Read
My friend Michael DeLon swears by the Spreeder Web App to help him plow through written content at blazing speeds — without sacrificing comprehension.
Here’s how it works: Paste content into the app. Set the speed (default is 300 words per minute). And get reading. The words scroll QUICKLY. It takes some getting used to. But after a while, you discover that you’re reading and comprehending the words — much more quickly than if you read them on a static page.
I’ve added Spreeder to my efficiency toolbox.
Lessons Learned from Hanging Out with Millionaires
In this great video, marketing expert and agency owner Will Hanke describes valuable lessons he’s learned after joining a group of like-minded agency owners on their way to 7-figures. Will describes: Changes he made to his business model, cutting-edge tools that blast you past your competition, and a few old-school techniques that many ignore (but that help Will make money!). Great lessons here for anyone trying to grow their business.
The Dutch philosopher died on this day in 1536. He said this…
“In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.”
