Bad-Day Dolphe’s Incredible Comeback

Next time you’re having a bad day and feeling frustrated or stuck, think of Adolphe Sax and take heart.

Bad-Day Dolphe had more than his share of rough ones.

One day he fell from a third-storey window and hit his head on a stone.

Another day, he accidentally drank a bowl of acidic water.

The day he swallowed a pin? That was a bad one.

So was the day he was seriously hurt in a gunpowder explosion…

…and the day when he tripped and fell onto a scorching cast-iron frying pan…

…and the day he survived an accidental poisoning (varnish)…

…and the day he fell into a river and nearly died.

It’s a wonder old Adolphe kept getting out of bed in the morning to face another day.

But get up he did — dusting himself off after each bed day and pushing ahead.

And then, in 1846, after more bad days when he felt frustrated and stuck, Adolphe Sax invented and patented the saxophone.

What a comeback!

Today (Nov 6) is Adolphe Sax’s birthday and the holiday that celebrates his invention.

So crank up some John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, or Clarence Clemons…

…raise a glass to Mr. Sax…
