Superstition Ain’t the Way to Grow a Business
It’s Friday the 13th.
(Uh-oh!)
Are you afraid?
Franklin D. Roosevelt would be.
He suffered from a bad case of paraskevidekatriaphobia.
That’s a big Greek word for fear (phobia) of Friday (paraskevi) the 13th (dekatre).
Ol’ FDR preferred not to travel on Fridays or on the 13th.
He also refused to attend a party with 13 guests. He once summoned his secretary to attend a dinner he was hosting when the 14th guest bowed out at the last minute.
Jesus hosted a supper with 13 guests. It was his last. We all know what happened the next day — on a FRIDAY!
Some say that’s where 13 and Friday got their bad rap.
All this superstition talk has me thinking about us humans and how we like to “control” things beyond our control.
“If I travel on any day but Friday, the plane won’t crash.”
“If I wear my lucky socks, my team will win.”
“If I carry this lucky penny, all will turn out well.”
“If I walk under that ladder, I’m doomed.”
“If I carry a rabbit’s foot, I’m charmed.”
None of this is rational.
But the psychological boost is real. Such rituals beat back fear and fuel confidence.
(I’ll admit: I have a few superstitions — especially related to sports events.)
Here’s the problem, though: If we spend too much time trying to control things we actually can’t control, we neglect the things we CAN control.
When it comes to running a business, control what you can control, and you’ll prosper.
It boils down to three things:
– Strategy: Mapping exactly what to do and when.
– Tech: Tools to simplify complex processes so you save time and money.
– Team: Humans to manage the tech and implement the plan.
All three are critical. But most business owners buy each thing separately and then struggle to connect them.
Strategy from a coach or course.
Tech from one or more providers who don’t know or care about your strategy.
And a team you have to build and train to use the tech in conjunction with the strategy.
It’s so disconnected. So it often falls apart.
What if you had all the pieces to simplify and accelerate business growth in a connected package?
In April, I’m opening a few more slots in my Implementum (think “implement with momentum”) programs.
We’ll create a customized marketing strategy, setup and manage the tech, and provide the team to implement it.
You remain in control while we do all the heavy lifting.
