How to Stay Relevant — The Beatles and George Carlin Way

In past Monday Mash-Ups, I’ve recommended the documentaries “George Carlin’s American Dream” (HBO) and “The Beatles: Get Back” (Apple TV).

Here’s a great article by Brian Kurtz that is loaded with lessons about how the best creators evolve to stay relevant (and then some).  And here’s a great nugget from that article:

“Writing while the world is changing around you—and staying relevant—is never easy. It should be noted that Carlin and The Beatles were often left for dead or obsolete (as “old news” living in the past)…only to rise again with a new piece of work, never before seen, setting a new standard for excellence, and a higher bar for others to clear.”

Lots of lessons to draw from this one. Read it to the end, and then read it again, if you want to absorb the best bits.

Hangout with Sujata

Sujata Tiwari is an entrepreneur, author, public speaker and life mentor. And she hosts a cool podcast called “Hangout with Sujata.”

Before Sujata records an episode, her guest sends a list of songs that “hold special memories and connections to moments from their lives.”

Then, during the episode, Sujata and the guest listen to each song and discuss it.

It’s an innovative and entertaining way to discover interesting business people, discover great songs and hear insights about music, business, and life.

I was Sujata’s guest earlier this month. You can listen to the episode here.

Helen Keller

Helen Keller fascinates me. Blind and deaf. Still, she lived a full life and accomplished great things.

She was born on this day (June 27) in 1880.

Here’s a remarkable video about her, shot in 1954.

The Marketoonist re: QR Codes

Here’s another hilarious, brilliant post by the Marketoonist.

The post opens: “One of the customer experience legacies of the pandemic is the QR code.  From ordering in restaurants to finding product info in stores to getting help while traveling, the QR code is now ever-present in our daily customer interactions.”

And that’s not necessarily a good thing.
