You’re in This Business — Whether You Know It or Not

business man

I spoke the other day with a business owner who said, “I’m too busy serving my clients to spend time marketing my business.”

I hear that occasionally. Maybe you’ve thought that yourself.

I responded by citing the great Dan Kennedy who taught me long ago:

All who run a business are in the marketing business.

Kennedy says sustained business growth comes when you move from thinking of yourself as a “doer of your thing” to being a “marketer of your thing.”

Sure, you can delegate certain marketing tasks. But if you run the business, you must be the chief marketer. You must wear the marketing hat – always.

You must examine and constantly reexamine what makes your prospects and clients tick.

You must discover the stories that will captivate prospects and inspire them to hire you.

You must have a direct hand in assembling the content you deliver.

Your voice and personality must ring through the stories you tell.

The good news: This isn’t magic. You don’t have to be a creative unicorn to do it. You just need to develop certain habits and master systems to do this consistently and productively.

And when you master these systems, you can delegate many tasks to others. When you delegate, though, you remain in charge.

Want to know how to develop those habits and master those systems?
