Why I Let my Thoughts Run…

1250x672

Greetings from Denver, Colorado, where I’m grabbing a quick breakfast before delivering a TED-style talk called How to Generate Client Attracting Content — Without Writer’s Block.

The big idea in my talk: Anyone can assemble great content if they can master a simple framework.

Content creation is more craft than magic art…

But that doesn’t mean I operate in a magic-free zone.

Magic can happen and help if you let it.

After putting the finishing touches on my presentation last night, I read anĀ articleĀ about Roz Chast. She’s a staff cartoonist for theĀ New YorkerĀ who often draws peculiar, funny depictions of domestic life.

In the New York Times Magazine article about her, she said this:

“I donā€™t know how people live without taking time to let their thoughts run and see where they go.”

I suspect some of Roz’s best ideas come to her when she let’s her thoughts run and sees where they go.

That’s the case for me.

When I daydream or journal or go for a walk — all without thinking about “What am I going to write for my next email / social posts / article?” — great things happen.

I discover things I hadn’t seen or heard before. I create without being caught up in the business of creating. I let magic happen.

You still need to master the craft to create client-attracting content.

But the magic — that happens when you let your thoughts run — can help.

Thanks for reading.
