Stuck Behind Mr. Incredible, Until…

I heard a great band the other day at The Sheldon Concert Hall. Bela Fleck and My Bluegrass Heart.

Heard it. Didn’t see it.

That’s because I was sitting behind a guy with the single largest head I’d ever seen on a human being. No neck. Just head and shoulders.

A HUUUGE head with elephant-sized ears, stretching from stage-left to stage-right.

This guy must have been the head model for Mr. Incredible.

So there I sat, hearing, not seeing. Hoping against hope that Mr. Incredible would lumber away. Fuming that I was sitting in the worst seat in the house.

I fumed for five songs.

And then, during song six, frustrated and in need of some sympathy and affection, I leaned to my left and put my head on Melissa’s shoulder. I opened my eyes and there I saw him — the guitar player. I leaned in a little further and saw Bela himself, picking his banjo.

Then I leaned to the right. Behold! The fiddle and bass players.

For the rest of the show, I leaned left. I leaned right. I heard the concert, and I SAW it.

I could have sat still, hoping and fuming over something I couldn’t control. (Turns out Mr. Incredible didn’t budge. He didn’t move a single one of his massive muscles.)

Instead, I focused on what I could do, and I moved.

So it goes at concerts. So it goes in business.

You get it, right!?

Sitting still and fuming about the things you can’t control will get you nowhere.
