Rant: Let your freak flag fly
My friend R.J. Redden doesn’t send emails often. But when she sends them, they’re soooooo good. This is a case study in how to create content that oozes with personality.

Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon
I LOVE this book. It’s short and easy to read. But a warning: You’ll read it once and return to it again and again. Don’t let the name fool you.
This book is NOT just for artists. This is for anyone who wants to stand out and be more creative in the digital age.
“Steal Like an Artist” is this month’s selection for the Mastermind Book Club. Each month, Ted Prodromou and I choose one book for the Club to read and discuss. This is our April Selection.

This month’s Book Club meeting is this Thursday, 4/25, at 2:30 p.m. ET, 1:30 p.m. CT. Join the Club for free, and you’ll get the Zoom link.

🎥Ripley
Melissa and I have enjoyed “Ripley” on Netflix, a new take on an old story. Matt Damon played the title role in the 1999 film “The Talented Mr. Ripley.” Andrew Scott plays Ripley in the 8-episode Netflix series. I won’t spoil the plot for those who know it. I’ll say only it’s a psychological thrilled based on Patricia Highsmith’s 1955 novel “The Talented Mr. Ripley.” That was the first of five novels Highsmith wrote featuring Tom Ripley. Netflix hasn’t said if there will be a second season.

🎶Love Me / Hate Me by Molly Martin
Melissa and I went last week to the world famous “Duck Room” at Blueberry Hill in St. Louis to see Aaron Lee Tasjan (one of our favorites) in concert. Good thing we got there in time for the warm-up act. Molly Martin rocked the house. Here’s one we especially liked — the fourth track on her album “Mary.”

Words to Ponder
“What a good artist understands is that nothing comes from nowhere. All creative work builds on what came before. Nothing is completely original.”
