Marketing Lessons from Apple

Here’s a great article from Neil Patel: 7 Key Strategies That You Must Learn From Appleā€™s MarketingPatel reminds us that we don’t have to run billion-dollar companies to market like Apple. There’s so much to learn from how Apple does it. I especially like Patel’s Key #4: Know Your Audience and Talk to Them in Their Language .

SmartLess is a Funny, Smart Podcast

Jason Bateman and Will Arnett were castmates on Arrested Development — one of my favorite television shows. They’re working together again — plus actor Sean Hayes (from Will & Grace) — as co-hosts of a great podcast called SmartLess.

One of the three hosts invites a guest and unveiling the guest to the other two. Check out the episode with Paul McCartney. Very entertaining, with lots of great business lessons.

You won’t believe how old McCartney was when he wrote “When I’m Sixty Four.”

You Can’t Beat the Algorithm

I love Seth Godin’s blog. This post rang true for me.

So many businesses focus on the latest and greatest tactics and tricks to master the search engines, social media, and other platforms governed by algorithms.

Seth says it well: “We have a chance to do work weā€™re proud of, and to do it for people who care. And maybe we can do it in a way that will lead them to tell the others. Traffic from an algorithm isnā€™t the point, itā€™s a random bonus.”Yes!

“Why is Storytelling so powerful? And how do we use it to our advantage? Presentations expert David JP Phillips shares key neurological findings on storytelling and with the help of his own stories, induces in us the release of four neurotransmitters of his choice. Learn more in this 2nd TEDxStockholm talk of David’s.”

Great Advice from Bing Crosby

Bing Crosby was born on this day in 1903. He was, of course, a brilliant performer. He also was a great, visionary businessman (more on that in an upcoming email). He once said this:

“…Listen a lot and talk less. You can’t learn anything when you’re talking.”
