Goodreads is a Great Resource for Book Lovers

In case you missed my emails last week, Ted Prodromou and I are launching the Mastermind Book Club in a few days (stay tuned for details)…

…so I have books on my mind.

One of my favorite resources for book lovers:Ā Goodreads.Ā

It’s a review site / online community for book lovers. With 125 million users, Goodreads is the world’s largest site for readers.

When you first log in (it’s free), you rate 20 books you’ve read. Then the site generates customized recommendations for you.

A great resource for finding books you’ll like!

How the Chandlers Built Goodreads

Otis Chandler was a young computer programmer in LA when he hatched the idea to build a web site for book lovers. A friend told him there wouldn’t be a large market for such a site. But Chandler pushed on, joined in the effort by Elizabeth who would soon be his wife.

In his fantasticĀ How I Built ThisĀ podcast, Guy Raz introduces us to Otis and Elizabeth Chandler who share their story. As with every edition ofĀ How I Built This,Ā the episode featuring the ChandlersĀ is loaded with business lessons and inspiration.

Setting the Table

Today (March 14) is Danny Meyer’s birthday.

He’s the restaurateur who started Shake Shack after building an empire of high-end restaurants in New York.

And he wrote one of the finest books on customer service I’ve ever read —Ā Setting the Table.Ā I’m re-reading it now. It’s one of those business books I crack open every couple of years.Ā

No matter what kind of business you run, you’ll learn something in this book about how to delight customers and keep them coming back.
