Facebook Nuked her Account. How She Survived and Thrived…

1250x672

A horror story about social media (this is 100% true):

Once upon a time, there was a successful mindset coach named Amanda who relied on Facebook to build a brand, grow her tribe, and run her business…

…until May 31 when Facebook suspended her account.

No warning. No explanation. No recourse.

She’d spent 17 years building her following on Facebook, and then “POOF!” It was gone.

Fifty-four days later (yesterday), her account came back — like a lost dog who wandered home.

Again, no explanation from Facebook. She hadn’t done anything to bring it back. It just happened.

Lucky Amanda.

But this isn’t a story just about big tech and how it operates beyond your control and can burn down your house of cards without warning.

This isn’t a story just about luck — rotten or good.

This is a story about Amanda’s business savvy.

Long before Facebook f*&%’d her, Amanda began to focus on email.

As she put it: “I’d already shifted my energy into building my list, my owned platform, so I didn’t lose everything.”

If she’d kept all her eggs in one basket, her business might have collapsed. It would have meant: “No audience. No reach. No revenue. #YIKES,” she wrote on Facebook.

But when Facebook pulled the rug from under her, she had a foundation to stand on. She had an email list.

“So I didn’t lose everything,” she said. “I kept selling. Kept growing. Kept showing up in people’s inboxes, even when I couldn’t show up in their feeds.”

Over the 54 days her Facebook account went dark, she added more than 2,000 people to her email list.

Smart Amanda.

How about you, Lucky Duck?

Are you focused on building your email list on a platform you control?

If not, time’s a wastin’.

Focus on building your list. Not just because Big Tech can burn you at any time, for no reason.

Focus on building your list, because email sells.

Social media is a great place to make connections and build a following.

But email is better at getting the appointment or closing the sale — especially if you sell higher ticket items like professional services.

On Tuesday afternoon, I’m hosting a small-group roundtable where I’ll share my latest, greatest strategies and tactics for building an email list.
