[Breaking News] Mark Zuckerberg sues Mark Zuckerberg
Ripped from the headlines…
A bankruptcy attorney in Indianapolis is suing Meta because they keep shutting down his Facebook account.
The attorney’s name “Mark S. Zuckerburg.”
His offense, according to Meta: Impersonating a celebrity and using a false name.
The celebrity in question: Mark E. Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO.
What a cluster-Zuck!Ā š
“It’s not funny,” said the attorney, who notes he has been “Mark Zuckerberg” way longer than Meta’s man.
Actually it IS kind of funny.
But it’s also serious business.
Mark Zuckerberg, Esq. claims Meta has disrupted his office’s operations, cost him thousands in advertising expenses, and kept away clients who never became aware of his practice.
So it goes when you rely on social media as your primary marketing channel (or worse, your ONLY channel).
You do not ‘own’ your social media accounts.
When you hang a shingle on Meta, you may think you own your content. But you don’t.
Mark E. Zuckerberg owns your account. And he and his accomplices can shut you down whenever they want.
Then what?
A few months ago, I told you about a mindset coach named Amanda who spent 17 years building a following on Facebook until — POOF! — her account was gone.
No explanation from Meta. The account just went away.
Her social account was zucked, but her overall business wasn’t…
…because she hadn’t put all her eggs in one basket.
Long before Meta messed with her, Amanda focused on building her email list — “my owned platform,” as she called it.
Yes! You own your email list. No one can take it away from you.
And if you create captivating, informative, and entertaining messages, email will turn prospects into clients at rates better than social media.
Don’t get me wrong… I love social media and think it can be a valuable part of a marketing machine.
But if you put too many of your marketing eggs in the social media basket, don’t be surprised if — POOF! — Mark E. Zuckerberg or some other big-tech bigwig takes it all away.
