A Request Inspired by Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal

The request: Reply to this email and let me know.

(Thanks in advance)

Harry and Sally inspired this request.

Last night, I watched When Harry Met Sally for the 8-zillionth time (give or take a zillion).

About 44 minutes in, Harry and Sally meet for lunch at a New York deli and discuss relationships, intimacy, and…(how should I put this?)…the big-O.

Harry (Billy Crystal) insists his partners have never…ummm…faked it.

Sally (Meg Ryan) says women fake it all the time.

Harry says, no way. He insists he’d know.

Sally begs to differ, and she proves her point by…

…putting down her turkey sandwich and…

…faking it…

…with gusto…

…right there in a crowded deli.

The scene’s punchline: The old woman at the next table summons the waiter, points at Sally, and says, “I’ll have what she’s having.”

(Ha!)

A classic rom-com moment…
…that delivers a powerful marketing lesson.

Why’d that woman order a turkey on rye?

Because Sally let everyone know how great it is

Marketers call that social proof.

The more proof the better.

That’s why I load my email signup page with testimonials from happy subscribers.

One last question for you: Do you regularly collect and publish testimonials to promote your offers?

I think you know why I’m asking.
