A Redemption Story? I’m Pulling For Her…

A woman in athletic clothing runs outdoors on a grassy field during sunset, wearing earphones and an armband, with trees and a clear sky in the background.

Good morning, sunshine.

I rolled out of bed to the news U.S. skier Mikaela Shiffrin is in first place after the first run of the women’s slalom finals at the Olympics.

The second run started at (6:30 a.m. CT). I’m tuned in, and I’m rooting for Mikaela.

When it comes to alpine skiing, she’s the GOAT. Most World Cup wins in history (men or women) — 108 and counting. Five overall World Cup titles. Olympic Gold in 2014 (slalom) and 2018 (giant slalom) and silver in 2018 (combined).

But since 2018, the Olympics have been a disaster for her.

In 2022, she was expected to compete for medals in all five alpine competitions. She earned zero medals.

This year, she posted the 15th best slalom time in the combined competition and finished off the podium. In giant slalom, she finished 11th.

Now, she sits atop a mountain in Cortina, Italy, waiting to ski her second run, hoping to write a redemption story.

I love redemption stories. Comebacks captivate me.

No one wins ’em all. Sometimes we lose when we expected to win.

And then we have to get up and try again.

What does it take to keep going after deep disappointment? What does it take to redeem yourself?

Those are questions all of us can chew on.
