What Will You Do When it Comes Tumbling Down?

1250x672

In yesterday’s email, I told you about the little kerfuffle I’ve got going with the content cops at Facebook.

More specifically, the new AI-powered robots that review content and decide whether it complies with Big Social’s “policies.”

Big Social’s robot pressed pause on some videos and ads I launched. So that campaign is in limbo.

Frustrating? Yes.

But I’m not sweating this too much…

…because I haven’t put all my eggs in the Facebook basket.

I am not over reliant on a single channel I can’t control.

Remember MySpace? Vine? Friendster? Google Wave? Google Plus?

Gone, baby, gone! And so are businesses that relied too heavily on those channels.

I know a guy who went from $500k/month in revenue to less than $10K when his Facebook house of cards came tumbling down.

Let’s see where things stand in five years with Facebook, TikTok and the other “big players.”

You may be thinking, “They’ll be fine.” But I wouldn’t bet the house of cards on it.

Fun fact: The expression “don’t put all your eggs in one basket” is commonly attributed to Miguel de Cervantes, who wrote in his novel Don Quixote, “It is the part of a wise man to keep himself today for tomorrow, and not venture all his eggs in one basket.”

Wise counsel, Miguel.

You know what I did after Facebook’s robot nixed my video? I sent it to you by email. Then I posted it on my website. Real estate I control!

Next week, I’ll post the video on YouTube. Then on LinkedIn. I’ll spread the love across multiple channels. No giant house of cards for me.

By the way, in case you missed it yesterday, here’s the video at the center of this controversy.

In my humble opinion, it’s not controversial at all…

…just helpful for anyone who wants to sell more — without tech headaches.
