Make Time for Renaissance Time

It was a dark and stormy night.

Really, it was…

…way back on this day — July 2 — in 1505.

A young fella named Martin Luther got caught in a violent storm.

He was so awed by God’s thunderous wrath…

…he decided to become a monk…

…right there and then…

…on that stormy night.

So today has me thinking about something Martin Luther once said:

“I have so much to do that I shall spend the first three hours in prayer.”

(This from a guy who was busier than a bee at a bonnet convention.

I first read that quote in ““Detox, Declutter, Dominate…” by Perry Marshall and Robert Skrob.

The book outlines 7 steps to “grow your business 4X faster by eliminating 80% of your wasted efforts.”

Step 1…

“Use Renaissance Time
to Gain Discernment
and Clarity.” 


From page 11 of this 37-page book: “Renaissance Time is time you spend in meditation, prayer, journaling, reading ancient texts, yoga, or walking alone with your thoughts. NO phone calls. NO radio. NO TV. NO podcasts.” 

Perry Marshall starts each morning with a cup of tea and his notebook, and he writes – whatever comes to mind. No editing. 

“People universally tell me that this morning discipline opens up their schedule rather than crowds it,” Marshall wrote. 

And then he shared that quote from Martin Luther. 

Count me among the people who think morning renaissance time opens up the schedule. 

I have a morning routine similar to Perry’s. A few minutes of meditation, followed by a few minutes of journaling. 

I confess. I occasionally let the habit slip. 

And then I remember – the hard way – that my focus, clarity, and productivity suffer when I skip my morning routine.
