You Won’t Believe What This Bride Did

Melissa and I traveled to the mountains of northwestern Connecticut last weekend to attend a family wedding. My cousin Ali married her sweetheart Ricky.

The weather was perfect. The ceremony was a tear-jerker. The food was delicious. The band rocked the house.

But the one thing I’ll remember most is the personalized note that I found as I took my seat at Table 13 during the reception.

In perfect handwriting, Ali wrote, “Dear Tom, Ricky and I are so very grateful that you and Melissa are here with us celebrating our marriage…”

It went on from there — 112 words in all. References to past times together. Wishes for future get-togethers. And this to close: “See you on the dance floor! p.s. Happy Father’s Day!”

Wow! What a nice note.

After I finished reading, I looked around the table and the room and noticed EVERYONE had a note from Ali. 150+ guests all received a note from Ali — each hand-written, each with personal messages.

Ali, Melissa, and me

Here’s to the hand-written thank you note!

There’s a business lesson here. When you reach out, with a note in your own hand, and say, “Thank you,” you build a strong bond — a human bond.

These bonds are stronger than those you create with digitized, automated, AI-generated messages.

I’m not saying to get rid of your marketing automation tools.

I’m just saying: Find opportunities to step up and make meaningful human connections. The more you do it, the more you’ll stand out in this ever-more-robotic world.

Don't go away yet..
