The Best-ever Description of “Branding”

1250x672

I didn’t expect this…

I can’t stop thinking about the exhibit I saw the other day at the St. Louis Art Museum… The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century.

I mentioned it inĀ yesterday’s email, and I shared the description for the exhibitionā€™s section on Brand. This is the thing playing over and over and over again in my mind, like a Top-40 pop song…

Holy mind-blower, Batman, that is…

The best description of “branding” I’ve ever seen.

This isn’t just about hip hop artists. This is about YOU, Mr. Businessman (and you, Ms. Businesswoman).

“You’re not a ‘businessman,’ you’re a business, man!”

Branding your business is not just about the logos, fonts, color palettes, and messages you choose to market your goods and services.

It’s about how you use available communication technologies to position yourself in the public sphere.

Every email you send, every social post you share, every video you publish — they all position you. They all establish you as the business you are. They help you create your independent brand to bolster your personal empire.

If you think about email and other content as selling a product or service, you’ve missed the point.

You’re selling YOU.

The better you “blur the boundaries” between “being in business and being the business,” the more you’ll stand out.

When you send an email, post on social, or publish a video, you’re not a content producer, you are the product.

Embrace that, and more people will hire you.

The single most important thing I did to embrace that: I began creating personal, story-powered content.

If you’re ready in 2024 to position yourself better in the public sphere…

…if you want to stand out as a powerful, indispensable business…

…if you want more of the right people to hear your tune and more prospects to hire you…

…resolve to power up your content.

I’ll help you do that with my Content Marketing Masters program — relaunching soon.
