More Marketing Lessons from a Master Fisherman

Mini Me did it again.

I spent last week in Wyoming, fly fishing with my high school pals.

My son, Jake, joined us. And as Mini Me always does, he schooled us.

A few years ago, Jake and I went fishing in Colorado. He caught 47 fish. I caught two.Ā šŸ˜®Ā (That story and its related business lessons:Ā here.)

This time wasn’t quite so bad. In our first morning on the North Platte together, he caught 24. I caught 3.

In a word, here’s how he did it:

Adjustments.

Jake was in constant trial-and-error-mode, adjusting as he went.

If one fly wasn’t working, he’d tie on another.

If he suspected the underwater “nymph” he was using was not floating deep enough, he adjusted the depth.

When he’d catch some fish, he’d work with the same set-up — until it stopped working.

And then he’d adjust again.

Meanwhile, I was standing in the middle of the stream, thinking, “Fishing’s kind of slow this morning.”Ā šŸ¤”

It wasn’t the fishing that was slow.

I was slow…

…to adjust.

Reminds me of one of my colleagues in Dave Dee’s Elite Mastermind Program.

He hosted some webinars to promote his business. They didn’t work. Prospects weren’t biting.

He told us he planned to scrap webinars.

Dave preached patience…

…and adjustments.

He told us about a client who almost scrapped webinars when they didn’t work at first.

But, instead, he adjusted and adjusted and adjusted some more…

…until his webinars began to rake in prospects and sales…

…just like Mini Me raked in trout.

Stick with it and adjust. It works on the trout stream It works for webinars. It works for email and other marketing media.
