Why “Society” is Not to Blame if Your Biz Falters
I crossed paths this morning with a coach who struggles to turn prospects into clients.
Over the past month, she struck out seven times in a row with prospects who met with her (four) or talked with her (three).
Her take? “Society” doesn’t understand what coaches do or, worse yet, there are “social prejudices” against coaches.
Because of this, “…getting a substantial full-time income from coaching is going to be very, very, difficult,” she said.
Her hope: “In a few more years the perception of coaches will change.”
Oh my!Ā
As this poor woman waits for society to get over its anti-coach prejudices, other coaches build lucrative businesses.
How are they doing it? They…
…focus on the things they can control.
“What are the benefits of YOUR coaching? What transformations do you deliver for your clients?,” I asked the coach.
I added: “When you go 0 for 7 with prospects who schedule a call with you, something is wrong either with 1) your lead acquisition (you’re attracting the wrong prospects) or 2) your message (or both). If you blame this on industry perception/awareness, you’re missing the point. You’re focusing on things you can’t control…
“…You can control how you acquire leads. And you can control your message.”
