The Return of the Monday Mash-Up, Vol. 2, Ep. 1
I used to send an email to my list called the Monday Mash-up.
Every Monday, a mash-up of five short items. A quick tip. A reading or music recommendation. Quotable quotes. A gratitude snippet. And so forth.
I stopped sending them in late 2019, and many people told me they missed them.
I knew the Mash-Up would return. But I hadn’t planned when.
Then I woke up this morning after a good night’s sleep. I hopped out of bed and thought, “Today’s the day.”
So here it is. The Return of the Monday Mash-Up.
Entertaining Content Entertains and Engages
My friend Ted Prodromou is one of the smartest content marketers I know — especially when it comes to LinkedIn. After Dawn Wells (Mary Ann on Gilligan’s Island) died last month, Ted wrote this: Ginger or Mary Ann?.
And then he followed with this: Did Gilligan Ever Get Off the Island?
This is great stuff. Read both and follow his advice if you want to produce content that is more entertaining and engaging.
Recommended Reading
Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. This is a great book, loaded with lessons for businesses of all sizes. I read it soon after it came out in 2011. I still pick it up all the time. Sometimes I just open it to a random section, read about one moment in Jobs’ life and draw some great lessons and inspiration from it. First time around, read it from beginning to end. It’s long, but it’s worth it.

Here are three of my favorite free stock photography sites. Great places to find images for your blog, social posts, emails, and any other place you need to add some graphic spice:
Music to Write By…
I’m listening to The Four Seasons by Vivaldi (the Winter part). Ben Settle, the most prolific content marketer I know, says he loops the same music every day when he writes. It makes him more productive, he says. He recommends Baroque music (Bach, Handel Vivaldi, etc.) for writing. I don’t have a better idea so Vivaldi it is. I’ll switch to the Spring part in two months.
Words to Live By…
“Courage is not having the strength to go on; it is going on when you don’t have the strength.”- Theodore Roosevelt
