šŸ’© I Bark and Growl at This Poopy Adviceā€¦

My client Dr. Deb Carlin loves her GoldenDoodle, Lady Hazel, whom she mentions often in her social posts.

But some nosy know-it-alls think all that dog-talk is unprofessional.

From one of Deb’s Facebook posts this week: “Some… have advised me to tame things a bit and stop overloading my posts with (Lady Hazel)… not good for my brand, theyā€™ve said.”

Deb’s response: “Hmmmm… Iā€™ve consideredā€¦ for about a minute.” And then Deb filled the post with more about Lady Hazel’s impact on her life. And she included this picture in the post:

Way to go, Deb (and Lady Hazel).

That advice from the “professionals?” A pile of poop.Ā šŸ’©

And you will step in it if you follow the advice.

By lifting the curtain on her life and sharing stories about Lady Hazel, Deb creates more entertaining, relatable content. She lets people in. She builds bonds. She creates connections.

Here’s how I put it in my upcoming book:

I know many ā€œprofessionalsā€ who push back when I encourage them to create informative AND entertaining content.

ā€œNo, no, no,ā€ they say. ā€œIā€™m a professional, not an entertainer.ā€

I hear them and say: Good luck standing out, being noticed, and getting hired.

I know. You have credentials. Advanced degrees. Certifications. Media Placements. An ā€œAmazon Bestseller.ā€ You know your stuff, and clients pay you plenty for what you know. Youā€™ve earned that, and I congratulate you. Really.

But hereā€™s the hard truth: Most experts are a dime-a-dozen. At least thatā€™s how prospects see them. If you want to be just another needle in the haystack of sameness, keep being as ā€œprofessionalā€ as you can be. Donā€™t put personality in your content. Keep it 100 percent serious. Dish out the same old information. Donā€™t lower your professional mask. Donā€™t let people in.

Orā€¦ sell more and have more fun doing it. Lower your guard and build a following. Attract loyal fans who know, like and trust you. Create a world where your followers keep coming backā€”because of YOU.

In other words, do like Deb did…

…or like I do.

In the very first email I send to new email subscribers, I share a picture of my wife, Melissa, and our “Crazy Doodle,” Moose. I send lots of emails about Moose.

The oneĀ about how Moose waits at the bottom of trees, hoping a squirrel will fall at his feet.Ā The oneĀ about how jealous he got when our son’s dog moved in with Melissa and me for the summer. And so on.

Click those links above and read them. These aren’t frivolous tales. They are business fables — anecdotes with a lesson.

But instead of dishing out yet another boring lecture, I deliver valuable information in an entertaining and valuable way — so readers enjoy what they see, come back for more, and feel a stronger connection to me.

All of this adds to a more engaged following and more sales. That’s why I call it “client-attracting” content.

You can do this, too. My book will help…

It’s title: “Story Power Marketing – Proven Methods to Create Client-Attracting, Profit-Generating Content ā€“ Without Getting Stuck

If you want a complimentary .pdf copy — before the book is available on Amazon — reply to this email with “Crazy Doodle.”

I’ll add you to the list and send it to you later this summer, after I approve the final cover design and proofs.
