Your Best Laid Plans are Worthless Unless…

I’m on Marco Island, Florida this week for some sun bathing ⛱️, beach walking 😎, and masterminding 💡.

I can’t share most names and details from the mastermind sessions because…

…you know…

…what happens in mastermind stays in mastermind.

But I can share this scene from yesterday’s session (because it contains a valuable business lesson for all of us).

Jim (name changed to protect the innocent) described a business challenge that had forced him to work longer hours than he’d like.

After lots of discussion, the group reached consensus on a solution.

Jim should document the processes he wishes not to do, hire an assistant, and delegate those tasks to the new employee.

Problem solved…

…sort of.

There still remained one challenge.

“When are you going to make the hire?” asked our mastermind leader, Dave Dee (that’s his real name).

“Ummm…” Jim replied. “I’m working on my new webinar, and then I have to…”

Dave interrupted. “When are you going to make the hire.”

Jim said something about a couple of projects he was wrapping up and things he needed to figure out and…

Dave interrupted again. “When will you do this. Set a date.”

Finally, Jim said, “May 15.”

Deadline set. Solution on track.

We all have problems to solve and dreams to chase.

If pressed, we can devise great plans to solve the most pressing problem or fulfill the biggest dream.

Then it’s time to IMPLEMENT…

…and that’s where things break down.

Making plans is easy. Implementing them is less so.

First step. Commit to a deadline. Better yet, commit in front of people who can hold you accountable.

Quit talking about all those other things you’re doing. If this is THE big problem, and you’ve decided how to solve it…

…get to it.
Commit to yourself and others with a deadline.

Thanks and have a great weekend.
