You Must Ignore This Hall of Shame Advice

1250x672 (1)

Here’s a sad but true tale about a marketing “expert” whose advice was SO BAD it belongs in the Storytelling Hall of Shame.

I stumbled across him on LinkedIn. He had 10,000+ followers so I thought he was credible…

…until he said you should NEVER begin a story by saying, in effect, “Here comes a story.”

A bit of his post: “Let the story speak for itself. If you need to tell someone a story follows, it’s not a strong story.”

Holy DUMB-ster fire, Batman.

Follow that advice only if you want to burn your business down.

If you readers to tune in, turn on, on act, follow this advice, instead, pulled directly from the Story Power Profit Pack:

#48: Open Stories by Announcing “Here Comes a Story…”

Humans love stories. It’s in our DNA. So when you open an email, social post or other content by saying, “Heads up! Story below…,” your audience tunes in. They can’t help it.

Here are a few opening lines from my emails that tell readers a story is coming:

“Here’s a cautionary tale for you to tuck in your ‘how-not-to-network’ file.”

“Imagine this…”

“A quick story about the awesome selling power of social media (or lack thereof) …”

“You might get a kick out of this…”

That’s one tip out of 52 in the Profit Pack.

51 more here.
