When “Impossible” Becomes Probable

Once upon a time, human beings believed a four-minute mile was impossible.

For thousands and thousands and thousands of years, humans ran and raced, and not one achieved the four-minute mile (at least not one measured by an authorized track-and-field organizationĀ šŸ˜‰).

And then, in May 1954, Roger Bannister did it.

Seven weeks later, John Landy did it.

Eleven months later, Laszlo Tabori did it.

And within four months after that, Stanislav Jungwirth, Dan Waern, Olavi Vuorisalo, and Roger Moens did it.

Holy evolution, Batman! What gives?

It’s all about belief!

One day, the four-minute mile was NOT possible.

Then Roger Bannister ran 3:59.4, and the impossible become possible.

Sure, humans evolve. They eat more Wheaties. They develop advanced training regimens. They wear better shoes.

But none of that explains how zero humans did it for thousands of years, and then seven humans did it in a three-year stretch.
