🤝 Why It’s NOT Better to Give Than Receive

I met Kevin Thompson last year (thanks, Dan Kuschell for the intro) and quickly discovered he’s an extraordinary giver. But he also has an interesting, counter-intuitive perspective on giving and receiving.

In this video, Kevin argues that being good at RECEIVING is as crucial for personal and professional growth as being a good giver. This is must watch for anyone who wants to grow their business through the power of partnerships and connections.

🌍 Under African Skies

I count Paul Simon’s Graceland album among the all-time greats — definitely on my Top-10 list. Soon after releasing the album, he launched a world tour. And in February 1987, he performed in Zimbabwe. Simon was not welcome in South Africa where Apartheid was still in full force.

Many of the artists who performed with Simon in Zimbabwe were banned from banned from stepping foot in South Africa.

One of those artists was Miriam Makeba. in 1960, Makeba was overseas when she learned her mother had died. She tried to return home for the funeral, but South African government had cancelled her passport. Makeba would remain in exile until 1990.

In this video from the Zimbabwe concert, Makeba and Simon perform “Under African Skies.” On the album, her part was performed by Linda Ronstadt.

The Zimbabwe show is captured in a 90-minute film called “Graceland – The African Concert.” It contains several songs not on the album. If you like Paul Simon and The “Graceland” album, I highly recommend this film.

Words to Ponder
