Ripped from my spam folder…

…this little “gem” from a “Sr. Growth Executive” named Jasmine:

Hi (first name) … just kidding

Hey Tom,

I am a real human unless this is all just a simulation of course, but then we are both in the same boat!

I however am reaching out personally because Story Power Marketing is a perfect fit for our tech expertise.

(etc. etc. blah blah blah)

(Sigh!)

Where do I begin with this one?

First, I’d bet my bottom Peso that Jasmine’s AI robot wrote this for her.

I’ve seen a lot of emails like this recently…

…that include some amusing (or not so amusing) reference to AI and an assurance that “I am a real human.”

As my Uncle Abner (and Hamlet) used to say, “The lady doth protest too much, methinks.”

And her sentence that begins “I however am reaching out personally…” may as well have been written by AI (even if Jasmine actually wrote it).

That sentence is more robotic than a Cylon convention (That’s a Battlestar Galactica reference. IĀ ā¤ļøĀ Battlestar Galactica — the 2004-2009 version, not the cheesy 1978 one.)

Anyhow that’s ā¬† not the thing that bugged me most about Jasmine’s email.

It was the “perfect fit” bit that got my goat.

I’m a PERFECT FIT for your tech enterprise?

How do you know?!?

What do you know about me? What’s keeping me up at night? What dreams and aspirations do I have?

Just guessing here, but methinks Jasmine knows very little about me other than…

…my name, email address, and company are on a list she purchased or scraped.

Maybe she bought a list of “marketing agencies” so she knows my industry. But that’s about it.

If you want to be the “real human” to hire in your niche…

…if you want prospects to tune in and turn on and believe, “Wow, you really get me…”

…don’t lead with the “perfect fit” bit.

Don’t tell them you have “just the ticket” for them.

If you say, “Look at me! I’m a perfect fit for you!” most will roll their eyes, tune out and move on.”

You must paint a picture of the transformation you enable (that’s where stories come in).

If you paint the right picture, prospects will tune in, turn on, and think, “This might be the perfect fit. I want to know more.”

That’s the difference between pitchy, proddy, robotic content that doesn’t work…

…and info-taining, story-powered content that does.
