My Stupid Robot Confessed His Stupid-ness. Here’s the Story…

1250x672

My rented AI copywriting robot, B-9?, read my email yesterday about tracking the mood of your market (read it here in case you missed it)…

…and he offered to help.

“You know, Tom, if you want to understand your prospects’ ever-changing moods, just ask me,” he said. “I’m you’re all-in-one market research tool.”

So I asked: Can you tell me the mood of my market following the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank?”

B-9? looked puzzled. He sat quietly for a few seconds. He stared at the ceiling. He wrung his robotic hands, and then he replied:

“While I cannot provide real-time information, I can give you an analysis based on my knowledge until September 2021. If a major financial institution like Silicon Valley Bank were to collapse, it would likely cause a ripple effect in the market…”

Hmmm… “Cannot provide real-time information?” Only knows things up to September 2021? That doesn’t sound good.

Me:
The bank collapsed last week. I don’t want you to speculate on what would happen if the bank “were to collapse,” I want you to tell me how my prospects and clients feel now that the bank HAS collapsed.

Robot:

I apologize for any confusion, Tom. As an AI Copywriting Robot, I don’t have real-time information or the ability to gauge the current mood of your prospects and clients directly.

And there it is, straight from the robot’s mouth:

AI does NOT “have real-time information or the ability to gauge the current mood of your prospects and clients directly.”

Real-time information matters because, as marketing legend Jeff Walker says (see yesterday’s email): “…The mood of my prospects is very different than it was a year ago, or five years ago, or 10 years ago, or 20 years ago.”

Understand your prospects’ ever-changing moods, and you win.

You can’t rely on AI to give you all the answers.

But AI can help with your research. It can speculate on the current mood. It can spark ideas. It can direct you to other resources.

In fact, B-9? did just that…

Robot:

“…Keep an eye on social media platforms and online discussion boards where your prospects and clients are likely to engage…You may consider conducting a survey or reaching out to your clients and prospects individually to ask for their thoughts and feelings about the recent event.”

Good advice, Robot!
