Monks Hooked on Junk Leave Villagers in Funk

monk temple

A Buddhist temple in Thailand has temporarily shut down after every one of its monks admitted to smoking meth.

Talk about Breaking Bad-dah!

The sheriff and village headman visited the temple, 150 miles north of Bangkok after villagers tipped them off.

When drug tests came back positive, the temple’s four monks confessed.

The temple’s chief monk (a.k.a. The Abbot) admitted he’s been hooked on meth for 10 years.

The news rocked the village.

Sungyut Namburi, the village headman, told The Washington Post, “It was very difficult for villagers.”

For now, the temple is closed and the former monks are in rehab.

After they get clean, the “misbehaving monks” (as the headman calls them), can rejoin the monkhood.

Meanwhile, there’s no one to operate the temple.

The headman said he considered hiring a temporary “good monk” so the temple could reopen.

But that hasn’t happened.

So…

…what does this have to do with content marketing, storytelling, and your business?

Zilch! Zip! Nada!

Just an entertaining story…

…which, sometimes, is just enough.

Sure, I enjoy finding that big bright line that connects a story to some valuable business lesson or service I offer. And most days, I draw that line.

When I read about the methed-up monks, I looked for the line. But I didn’t see it.

(Confession: I didn’t look very hard.)

Then I thought…

I gotta tell this story anyway.

It’s just too entertaining.

And if you want to captivate your audience and establish long-lasting, business-building relationships with them, you have to…
