Jeff Tweedy f’d-up, and Then…
Last night, I saw Jeff Tweedy at the Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis.
He’s one of my favorite singer / songwriters. And he’s the lead singer of one of my favorite bands, Wilco.
Great concert — even though halfway through, he f’d-up it.
Here’s how that went down…
He told us he wanted to play a few songs about his “dead dad.”
One of those songs is called “Don’t Forget.”
As he launched into the fourth verse and sang, “Don’t forget. I won’t forget…”
…he stopped cold because…
…he FORGOT the lyrics.
(You can’t make this stuff up.)
Right there, alone on the Sheldon stage, just him in the spotlight, in front of 700 people…
…Jeff Tweedy forgot the words to a song called “Don’t Forget” about his dead dad.Ā
Then he screamed…
“…what the F%CK?!?!?!”
For one cringey moment, I thought, “Train wreck!”
But as his scream echoed through the rafters of the Sheldon Concert Hall, Jeff grinned, spread his arms, stared at the heavens, shook his head, and started laughing.Ā
And we all laughed along with him.
There’s a lesson in that.
Take from it what you will.
Don't go away yet..
