How Elite Athletes (And You) Can Stay in The Game and Win

What does a pro hockey player know about running a business?

Plenty, I think, after hearing Ryan Suter talk about what’s kept him in the league so long.

Last week, he played his 1,500th National Hockey League game. (That’s A LOT of hockey games.)

When a reporter asked him how he lasted so long he said:

I tell everybody it’s it’s all mental.

You’re sick (don’t be sick).

You’re hurt (don’t be hurt).

Tell yourself that you’re you’re good to go.

Not one player in this league is healthy for for all 82 games. I mean you’re lucky if you feel good for 40 of them.

So I think it my big message is: It’s mental.

There’s so many ups and downs throughout a season — you know the emotional roller coaster of a career.

You’re feeling the top of the world, and then you hit rock-bottom.

It’s how you respond to those things. The mind is a is a very powerful thing.

“It’s all mental”

Put that in your puck and smoke it, business leaders.

The mental thing doesn’t just happen.
