A Biz-crushing Disease & How to Cure It…
I got an email this morning from marketing master Dave Dee who needed to get something off his chest.
One of his clients “doesn’t see the value in building a list of prospects who need his service and doesn’t have a follow-up system to turn those leads into appointments and clients.”
The result: The client is struggling to grow his business, and Dave is “exasperated.”
That got me thinking:
Why, despite mountains of evidence proving its effectiveness, do so many business people refuse to grow a list and send emails regularly?
In my quarter-century+ of experience, it comes down to two things:
1) They think it’s too hard to churn out regular emails.
2) They suffer from “I Don’t Wanna Be Lumped With the Pests Syndrome.”
#1 is self-explanatory.
#2? Let me ‘splain with a quick story…
In a Facebook group I frequent, a successful marketer posted this question:
“…how important is it to build an email list…?”
Several people answered, “Very important” (or something similar).
One naysayer said this: “I guess I’m in the minority but daily emails feels so invasive to me. I hardly ever read them.”
She suffers from “I Don’t Wanna Be Lumped With the Pests Syndrome.”
She figures: “If I despise all these emails and the people who send them, people will despise me and my emails if I send a lot.”
I’ve met more than a few struggling business people who suffer from this syndrome.
They think they can cure the syndrome by sending fewer emails or — worse, yet — no emails.
But that doesn’t solve the real problem: Your business isn’t growing.
If you’re afraid people will find your emails “invasive,” here’s the cure:
Write better emails!
Just yesterday, Story Power subscriber Kia Arian (also a marketing master) interviewed me for her podcast and said out loud (for all in her audience to hear): “Tom, your emails are some of the few that I read every day.”
I hear that a lot.
Over the years, I’ve INCREASED email frequency from monthly to weekly to twice-weekly to three times a week to week daily.
Every time I increased frequency, open and click rates increased, direct replies, increased, opt-outs and complaints decreased, and…
…here’s the bottom line…
…sales and profits grew.
My subscribers don’t think my emails are invasive. They don’t think I’m a pest. They look forward to my emails. They read from top-to-bottom. And they act and buy.
Which brings email marketing objection #1: “…it’s hard to churn out regular emails.”
I know it feels hard…
…because it IS hard…
…if you don’t have the right systems and habits to overcome writer’s block and assemble emails with ease.
