Batman Rules: Leave Them Hanging
Way up yonder, in the big Bat Cave in the sky, Adam West is celebrating his 97th birthday today (September 19).
(Here’s to the greatest Caped Crusader of them all!)

Fun fact about the 1960s ‘Batman’ series:
Its creators intended it to be an hour-long show.
But ABC didn’t have any hour-long slots available…
…so the writers carved each episode in two.
The first half of each episode aired on Wednesday. The second half aired on Thursday.
Those Wednesday episodes always ended with a Batman and Robin in peril.
Example: The one where Batman and Robin are tricked into posing as “life-sized marshmallow figurines” atop a giant birthday cake.
When they step onto the cake, they discover they’re caught in quicksand that the Riddler has “cleverly disguised as strawberry icing.”
Batman and Robin are sinking quickly.
And then the announcer chimes in…
“Can this be true? Batman and Robin caught in a quicksand cake-mix? Is the party really over? Will Happy Anniversary be an epitaph for the Dynamic Duo? To see if they sink or swim…
“…tune in tomorrow. Same Bat-Time, same Bat-Channel!!!”
Holy cliffhanger, Batman. That’s good.
Cliffhangers are a powerful tool to keep viewers and readers on the edge of their seats, wanting more.
So it goes on network television.
So it goes when marketing your products and services.
So riddle me this, marketing super-hero: Do you have any cliffhangers in your utility belt?
If not, hop to it. Come up with some cliffhangers, deploy them occasionally, and keep your audience tuned in.
Which reminds me…
I’m putting the finishing touches on a new program that will give you EVERYTHING you need (in one place) to create better content, distribute it without tech headaches, and make it all happen without working like a bat out of hell.
More details to come next week. Same Bat-Time. Same Bat-Channel.
Until then, have a great weekend.
(And watch out for quicksand disguised as strawberry icing.)
