Why Simple Stories Win
Soon after he signed on to work with me, one of my clients said he appreciated my approach because I “keep it simple.”
That was music to my ears.

So many so-called “experts” make storytelling WAY TOO COMPLEX.
They compare storytelling for business to writing a screenplay.
They liken business stories to Star Wars, The Godfather, or Casablanca. And they encourage you to load your business stories with all the elements of a good screenplay — like backstories and heroes and villains and conflicts and resolutions and so on and so forth.
Knowing that stuff doesn’t hurt — especially as you become a confident storyteller. But storytelling does not have to be so darn complex — especially at first.
There’s one “expert” who wants you to master “12 Storytelling Brand Archetypes.” Another offers a “simple 10-step system” for business storytelling. Call me simple, but a “simple 10-step system” seems like seven steps too many.
All the best business-building stories are simple tales of before-to-after journeys. Discover the journeys your prospects wish to take. Describe how your products and services enable the journey.
Simple as that.
