Huck No! (The Wrong Way to Attract Prospects)

prospect

Happy 140th Birthday Huckleberry Finn (the novel, that is, published on this day in 1885).

One of my favorite stories from the novel: the time Huck tried to pass as a girl.

He put on a dress.

He strolled into town.

And he confidently introduced himself as… Sarah Williams.

So far, so good.

But then he forgot his own fake name and switched it to Mary Williams.

Suspicious, the woman he was talking to gave him a little test.

“Thread this needle,” she said.

Huck fumbled. (Boys don’t sew.)

“Now throw this lump of lead at that rat,” she said.

Huck nailed it. (Girls don’t throw like that.)

Busted!

Huck bolted before she could turn him in.

So, my little huckleberry, what does all of this mean for you and your business???

If you pretend to be someone you’re not, you’re bound to HUCK it up.

People will see right through you.

Too many business owners force themselves to sound “professional.”

Or maybe they are “professional,” but they refuse to reveal their true selves — the person behind the professional mask.

They write stiff, boring content.

They try to impress instead of connect.

They refuse to be amusing and entertaining.

Here’s the problem with that:

Your prospects DO NOT want a perfectly polished version of you.

They want the REAL you.

Your stories.

Your personality.

Your expertise, delivered in an entertaining way…

…and in a way that feels human.

If your content is the same old boring, overly polished, un-entertaining, information-only content, your prospects will tune out and move on.

And you and your business will be busted (or worse).

There’s a better way. I can help.

Get a copy of The Story Power Profit Pack. It contains 52 pointers to help you create content that will make you stand out as the human to hire in your niche (and it’s WAY shorter than The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn; you can read it in one sitting)
