Why I’m so Passionate About What I Do
I love my job.
Last night, I was especially feeling it.
I ran a successful training (“The Tech-to-Profit Formula”), and I was still hopped up on adrenalin at bedtime.
So rather than floating off to Slumber Town, I grabbed my Kindle and opened “No Shortage of Good Days” by John Gierach.
Gierach is one of my favorite authors. He’s a master fly fisherman who writes better than anyone I know about his passion.
And last night, after a long and happy day doing what I love, I read this in Gierach’s book:
“You’ll hear that it’s unfair to define a person by the work he does, but I’ve always thought that was first said by someone who didn’t like their job.”
I nearly jumped out of my flip-flops and yelled “Yes!”
But I didn’t want to wake Melissa who was snoozzzzzing nearby.
So I quietly highlighted the line in my Kindle and added this note:
“Yes! Have to write an email about this!”
And here I am, the morning after (cup of coffee to my right, crazy-doodle Moose at my feet) writing this email and saying…
…I don’t mind if you define me by the work I do.
During last night’s training, I shared this slide:
